Sea to spawn
This one-minute film, as well as celebrating eels, explores the ways in which visual poems can be handled and archived. The concrete poem at the centre of the film is labyrinthine and interlacing, and its text ‘slides’ into the form of an eel to interrupt what would be an otherwise a linear poem.
Sea to Spawn was specifically created for The Creel, an anthology of poetry about eels published by Guillemot Press in 2019, and it showcased the work of over 40 contemporary poets. The Creel was part of a bigger project led by the artist John Kilburn and Luke Thompson and was supported by the Sustainable Earth Institute.
