Mercurius No.2: Local Nature Devas

Cover artwork by Stephen Nelson

This latest edition of Mercurius celebrates our inherent human flexibility, our mercurial natures, in the form of art and creative expression. As before, we blend sophistication with non-elitism.

Sometimes modern poetry can be tough for non-habitual poetry readers. That’s why we try to ease readers into the poem with devices like mini-introductions and artist statements. The hope is that anyone, from poets to general readers, can read Mercurius and feel something. Or see something.

There’s a mix of well-known voices and some you probably won’t know. What ties them together? Echoes of certain themes perhaps. Nature. Spirituality. A concern with the current state of the world but also the timeless stuff: grief, love, loss, departure.

We're also keen on the avant-garde and experimental visual work. This edition features a mini collage “library” and a mini vispo “library”.

It’s a beautiful gift, so please consider supporting Mercurius by purchasing a copy. Leave it on the coffee table, and impress your friends with your sophistication. Or keep it on your bedside table, and read a poem before you go to sleep. All the proceeds go to the running costs of the magazine. Mercurius is volunteer-run. The sale of these books is our sole source of funding.

£15 may sound like a lot, but it’s a full colour edition that includes many innovative and thought-provoking images from some excellent contemporary artists.

Contributors include: Stephen Nelson, Forrest Gander, Sophie Cabot Black, Nidia Hernández, Rowena Hill, Mark Goodwin, Iain Britton, J.I.
